Total of 8 illustrations are based on the tragic story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, by Victor Hugo. The novel details the downfall of archdeacon Frollo, blinded by lust, ruthlessly pursues Esmeralda. His decisions ultimately result in both his own and Esmeralda’s deaths, as well as that of the innocent people including Quasimodo. Hermes scarf designs, medieval catholic manuscripts, gothic architecture, and stained glass were the inspirations behind this series. The color palettes and stylizations were carefully designed to emphasize the differing moods and atmospheres in each of the selected scenes.
